Fish Oil Turns Fat-Storage Cells Into Fat-Burning Cells, According to Science

For a long time, everyone saw body fat simply as a storage space for excess calories. But this last decade of scientific research has shown us that body fat is much more than that – in fact, it’s associated with increased tissue inflammation, high triglycerides, high blood pressure, insulin resistance and a greater risk of heart disease and cancer, among many other things.

And we’ve been fanatically devoted to creating ways to enhance fat loss ever since. Our collective efforts to burn more fat and improve our health have included a variety of tools in the form of revolutionary diets and miraculous supplements, and many of them have been proved to be unefficient and potentially harmful.

Yet, one product has survived every scientific test and has proven to be worthy of the fame surrounding it – fish oil, i.e. natures’ richest source of top quality omega-3 fatty acids. We’ve already heard a lot about it: it can increase fertility, support a healthy pregnancy and prevent the development of a handful of serious diseases. But the one thing it does best is helping the body burn more fat.

An increased omega-3 fatty acid intake has been shown to improve fat loss by increasing the metabolism and suppressing the appetite, while effectively managing the negative effects of obesity and improving overall health as well.

Multiple studies have already found that omega-3 fatty acids can reduce inflammation and improve insulin sensitivity, both of which  are crucial for fat loss and muscle performance. But now, a big new study from Kyoto University came to an extraordinary conclusion: fish oil actually transforms your fat-storage cells into fat-burning cells.

You might be wondering how.

Well, first of all, not all of your fat cells are responsible for fat storage. Actually, there are two kinds of fat cells in the human body, also known known as “white“ and “brown“. The first kind has the duty to store fat in order to maintain energy supply, while the role of the second kind is to metabolize fat in order to maintain a stable body temperature.

In this study, the researchers compared the effects of a high-fat diet without fish oil supplements and a high-fat diet that included fish oil supplements. The group of mice who ate fatty foods and fish oil gained 5-10% less fat than the other group, who ate fatty foods alone.

According to the authors of the study, this happens because the consumption of fish oil increases the number of a third type of fat cells, called “beige“ cells, which ‘convince’ the body to metabolize fat instead of saving it for later.

This means that fish oil is able to only prevent the accumulation of excess body fat, but increase the body’s fat-burning capacity regarding the previously stored fat as well. A true win-win situation.

The senior author, Teruo Kawada, says: “People have long said that food from Japan and the Mediterranean contribute to longevity, but why these cuisines are beneficial was up for debate. Now we have better insight into why that may be.”

So, why not give it a try? Introduce fish oil in your diet and discover its incredible healing and fat-burning potential for yourself!
