How Cardio Training Can Help With Stress Relief

Almost everyone knows that regular exercise can greatly improve your health and well-being. But an often unknown role that cardio training has in improving overall health, is the ability to make you tolerate stress better.

One theory is that the body reacts the same to different types of stress like stress at the office,a workout or a run. They are absolutely identical to the body. This is why it’s important to develop stress resistance and tolerance.

You see the body has a system also known as autonomic nervous system. The autonomic nervous system is composed of two subsystems: the sympathetic and parasympathetic.

When we are exposed to stress (any kind of stress), sympathetic nervous system is activated to increase the body’s awareness by increasing heart beat and adrenaline. When we calm down, parasympathetic nervous system takes over to enable normal breathing, digestion etc.

So what is the purpose of cardio exercise in all of this? Increased aerobic capacity is directly linked to the ability to quickly activate the parasympathetic nervous system and reduce stress levels. On the other hand,in people with reduced aerobic capacity, sympathetic nervous system is more dominant and they are more prone to stress.

The best athletes in the world are also the ones with the ability to tolerate stress and recover more quickly from training.Their highly developed aerobic system plays a key role in that situation. The same goes for the general population, the more developed their aerobic system the easier they will deal with daily stress in their lives.

Being under constant stress or the inability co tolerate stress increases the risk of serious diseases. This is why doing cardio exercise plays a very important role in overall health and well-being.
