This Man With Down Syndrome Totally Transformed Himself To Compete In A Bodybuilding Contest

In the last 12 months, 22-year-old Collin Clark has done what no one thought was possible: going from an overweight 201 pounds to a chiseled 139, with his body fat plunging from from more than 30 percent to just over eight percent.

It’s a body that bears little resemblance to what it was a year ago. It belongs to a young man whose life has undergone a complete transformation.

It’s an incredible feat made even more amazing by the fact that Collin has Down Syndrome. Among those baffled by the transformation is the man who’s led him to this point, his trainer and long-time bodybuilder, Glenn Ubelhor.

“I’ve never seen anyone with more desire and more conviction,” Ubelhor said. “He’s so determined.”

It all began while Collin was working the front desk at a fitness club where Ubelhor was a trainer. Collin would notice that from time to time, Ubelhor would go in a room by himself to practice his bodybuilding poses. Collin was fascinated and watched him the whole time. So Ubelhor asked Collin if he wanted to be a bodybuilder too. From there, a dream and a relationship were launched.

“His dream was to get on stage in front of a crowd of people and put on a show to motivate and inspire people,” said Ubelhor. “I said, ‘We’re going to do this. I’m going to make your dream come true. I promise you that.”

Collin promised to stay committed, working out virtually every day and changing his diet — no more McDonalds.

“It was really difficult. I had to put all that to the side and try to eat healthier,” Collin said.

He says it’s awesome just to be here competing and he still can’t believe he’s made it.

Collin will finally live his dream by taking the stage at the Kentucky Muscle Strength and Fitness Extravaganza at the International Convention Center over the weekend. He says he can’t wait and he knows he has sheer determination and his new best friend to thank.

“From the bottom of my heart, he is the most grateful person I’ve ever met,” Collin said. “[He’s] like a brother to me.”

“I made him a promise and hey, here we are. I mean — I’m sorry,” Ubelhor said, getting emotional. “I just can’t believe it’s all really happening for him. I just want him to get his moment on stage.”

No matter what happens, Collin says he plans to keep bodybuilding.
