Warrior Diet

Recompose Your Body with The Warrior Diet

The Warrior Diet is based on the assumption that your body has the instinct to control and to manipulate itself very well. The diet was created by Ori Hofmekler and revolves around  a daily cycle of “undereating” during the day and “overeating” at night.

According to Hofmekler’s theory, a daily cycle of undereating and overeating, awakens the basic human instinct for survival. For 10 to 18 hours a day, the dieter is supposed to consume no more than light snacks of raw fruits and vegetables or a light protein food like yogurt. He should also exercise during this undereating period and eat one large meal at night.

The “Undereating Phase” of the Warrior Diet should maximize the Sympathetic Nervous System’s (SNS) fight or flight reaction to stress, resulting in the generation of energy and ultimately the burning of fat.During this phase the body is forced to use stored fat as a source of energy.

The “Overeating Phase” at night maximizes the Parasympathetic Nervous System’s (PNS) recuperation effect on the body. The “overeating phase” will promote calming down,  digestion and the utilization of nutrients for repair and growth. This feeding cycle stimulates the production of cellular factors such as Cyclic AMP or GMP, which stimulate hormone synthesis and fat burning during the day, as well as protein synthesis and growth during the night, respectively.

Key points of the Warrior Diet

– 18-20 hours of fasting or undereating, where you can eat 2-3 meals of vegetables, low Glycemic Index fruits (like berries, apples…) and light protein (like yogurt, a serving of whey protein or BCAA’s).

– A 4 or 6 hour overfeeding phase where you can eat as much as you like, but no junk food. You should give the priority and eat the protein first, while carbohydrates fit at the end of the meal to stabilize the level of insulin in the blood. As protein sources you should use lean meats, cheese, eggs etc.

Some dos and don’ts of the diet

-You should avoid processed foods.
-You should eat only organic foods, because ordinary supermarket produce and dairy products contain estrogens.
-Minimize the consumption of foods that are wrapped or bottled in plastic containers, particularly soft plastics. Do not store food in plastic containers at home. Plastic fibers contain “estrogenic chemicals that are dangerous to our health.”
-Minimize alcohol consumption because alcohol compromises the liver’s ability to rid the body of estrogens.
-Cycle between high fat and high carbohydrate days in order to maximize the body’s fat burning during exercise.

If you are looking for a elite level bodybuilding physique, then the Warrior Diet is not for you. But if you want to build a lean an powerful body this diet will be a perfect fit. When you think about it – only certain people have the genetics to build an elite level physique (not to mention that only a small number of people will decide to take the amounts of drugs the pros are using).
