The legendary boxer and former heavy-weight champion Mike Tyson has reportedly punched an airway passenger who was seated behind him.
The former heavyweight champ was preparing to fly from San Francisco to Florida when a man who was seated behind the boxer appeared to continue harassing him, which eventually led to an assault.
Video taken on the plane shows Tyson leaning over his seat and repeatedly punching the man seated behind him, leaving the man battered and with a bloody face.
“Unfortunately, Mr. Tyson had an incident on a flight with an aggressive passenger who began harassing him and threw a water bottle at him while he was in his seat,” a spokesperson representing Tyson told USA today.
A friend of the man who was assaulted and also on the flight, told TMZ that Tyson actually took a selfie with him and originally showed patience with his friend.
Eventually, though, Tyson got frustrated and told him to calm down. The fan did not pay attention to Tyson’s warning, after which the boxer started throwing punches in the man’s direction, the witness said. Tyson walked off the plane a few seconds later.
A spokeswoman for the San Francisco Police Department said that one person was treated at San Francisco International Airport for non-life threatening injuries and that the subject provided minimal details of the incident and refused to co-operate further with the police investigation.
Both people were released “pending further investigation”. The department did not identify either of the individuals involved.
It was later revealed that the man who was punched by Tyson, had a long criminal record and was convicted before for grand theft, possession of drugs and trafficking in property known to be stolen.
