A lot of turbulence before this year’s Mr. Olympia. With the last year champion Shawn Rhoden not competing as well as the 7x Mr. Olympia Phil Heath out of this competition as well, there were many of changes to the lineup for the most prestigious division in the sport of bodybuilding.
With no returning champion in the form of Shawn Rhoden and Phil Heath taking at least a year off before attempting to reclaim his thrown – this year’s Men’s Open Olympia was open to a new champion.
So of course the prejudging last night proved to be an exciting one as many predicted – The biggest surprise was probably seeing Hadi Choopan land so high in the callouts.
Hadi was placed in the final top 4 callout alongside Brandon Curry, William Bonac, and Roelly Winklaar.
Roelly disappointed with his shape as he was a little smooth. This happens a few years in a row with Roelly, unfortunately.
A slight upset came in the form of Dexter Jackson who seemed to be considered for a sixth or fifth placing during the prejudging. Of course the finals are the last chance to prove your worth and a lot can change in just 24 hours. For all of these competitors it was an epic fight to the finish.
Once again, congratulations to Brandon Curry for his win !!
