French fries – Now, anything deep fried in fat or oil is, not surprisingly, pretty bad for you. French fries are especially bad however, due to their small size. As French fries are so small and thin, they have an increased surface area, which means they soak up and absorb more fatty oil from the fryer. As if that wasn’t enough, most places also coat them in heaps of salt, which can lead to high blood pressure or cardiovascular disease.
Potato chips – Sticking with the fried potato theme, potato chips are just as bad as French fries, if not more so in fact, with the added bonus that they also tend to contain a carcinogenic (causes cancer) ingredient known as acrylamide.
Bacon – Bad news for bacon lovers, but bacon is a processed meat which is high in saturated fat, salt, and the scariest part – often pumped full of preservatives. Regular consumption of fried bacon can increase the likelihood of a heart attack occurring by just under 43%.
Doughnuts – Doughnuts are packed full of sugar and fat, which already means they’re pretty unhealthy. Not only are they packed full of fat, they’re packed full of trans fats, which are the worst types of fat imaginable, even worse than saturated fat.
Margarine – This spread, which was actually initially created to be a healthy alternative to butter, is actually far, far unhealthier than butter, as it’s packed full of trans fats. These fats can increase bad cholesterol levels and damage the blood vessel walls, which can lead to very serious health complications indeed.
Bagels – Bagels are made from processed white flour, so any vitamins, minerals, or other healthy ingredients will already be long gone before the bagel itself is even made. They’re high in calories, and low in fiber.
Diet soda – Don’t be fooled by the big marketing and advertising companies that try to convince you that this is a diet friendly product. The only reason they call it diet friendly is the fact that it contains no sugar. So what? My TV contains no sugar, but it’s not a “diet” TV. What makes these drinks especially harmful however, is that they’re packed full of artificial sweeteners instead of sugar. Aspartame is the most common artificial sweetener, that’s been proven to be very carcinogenic. This chemical was developed by the same company that developed a very powerful and very well known chemical weapon used during regular wars, so that alone should tell you how vile the stuff is.
